A local organisation supporting our community
Based at Bowthorpe Community Hub, Mow & Grow (a social enterprise) offers a wealth of volunteering opportunities and services for local people as well as those living further afield. There are two main strands to our work.
First, our Grow activities focus on services offered from the Hub with members of the local community welcomed almost every day of the working week.
Our Growing Strong Together project on Mondays and Wednesdays (10am-3pm) aims to reconnect those with low to moderate mental health issues in a relaxing and secure outdoor environment. Our focus is on improving general health and wellbeing, strengthening our communities and helping to preserve natural resources. We welcome referrals for military veterans and emergency services personnel suffering with anxiety, depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. We also welcome referrals from GPs, Norfolk & Suffolk Foundation Trust and self referrals. Our unique venue offers participants a transition back into the local community, collaboratively working alongside others from differing backgrounds learning and sharing skills along the way. We know from participant feedback that social interaction is a vital part of reintegration in civilian life, and gives them a feeling of purpose and contribution to the lives of those less fortunate.
In addition, the Community Hub doors are open each week for drop-in sessions for veterans on a Thursday (10am-1.30pm) and an Friday Social Group (10am-12pm). Both sessions are run by volunteers and funding to support each comes from attendee donations as well as from local businesses for the light refreshments provided. Donations of time or money to help continue these sessions in 2018 would be gratefully received. Please contact Claire on 01603 740107 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org if you are able to support our drop-in sessions in anyway.
Secondly, Mow offers a garden rescue and maintenance service for those residents requiring assistance to manage their own gardens and remain in their homes for longer. It also provides an employment progression route for individuals we support through Grow wanting to undertake a career in the landscaping industry.
We have a skilled team of experienced gardeners who undertake all types of gardening work: from mowing and strimming grass, de-weeding and tidying borders, cutting hedges and pruning low level trees to clearing overgrown gardens, however big or small. We offer regular or ad-hoc maintenance visits and our professional staff are also able to undertake larger practical projects including fencing, laying patios or decking, turf laying and seeding lawns.
We undertake gardening projects for private households, churches, schools and commercial businesses as well as holding long term gardening contracts with Norwich City Council. All Mow & Grow staff are enhanced DBS checked and Designated Safeguarding Officers.
If you need help with your own garden or perhaps have a relative or neighbour who could benefit from a visit from the Mow team, please contact Cath on 01603 740107 or e-mail email@example.com
